Penda The last Heathen king of Mercia was a warrior king of the old type, whose life of bloodshed was ended at the battle of Winwaed in 655.Penda is credited with killing six kings and he raised an army against King Edwin ( Edinburgh) and killed him in battle in 633 in the fenlands at Heathfield, in so doing ending the reign of a King who was overlord to the Welsh, Scots and much of England.
