It is not often recognised that in spite of the loss and suffering following the aftermath of the Battle of Hastings, a continuing struggle carried on for many years after the English defeat in King Harold's year of two major battles-one a huge victory against a massed Norwegian army at Stamford Bridge the other at Senlac. Individuals from all areas of the country and both rich and poor alike took this guerilla war to the Norman invaders. These bookmarks honour them.
